Legislative Affairs

To All,

The AARC Virtual Lobby Week will officially go LIVE on Monday, March 20th, 2017 and will run through our Capitol Hill visits on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017.

This is in preparation and support of Carrie and Jeff, along with about 160 AARC representatives from other states, that have appointments on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

There will be a two-prong approach to our advocacy efforts as follows:

  • Include respiratory therapists as telehealth providers in any telehealth legislation introduced this year to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries with chronic respiratory disease have access to their expertise.
  • Include language in the FY 2018 Labor-HHS Appropriations Report asking CMS to conduct a data analysis of COPD claims in various health care settings that will show how respiratory therapists improve health outcomes, reduce hospital readmissions and lower costs.

It is imperative we get the word out and have as many emails sent to Washington D.C. as possible. When Carrie and Jeff are meeting in D.C. with congressional leaders/offices it makes a ‘huge’ impact if the offices see hundreds, even thousands of emails supporting the AARC and MSRC effort on behalf of patients and respiratory therapists.

Please be an advocate! Forward this message or your own message to any respiratory therapist; physician; patient; family member; nurse; PT/OT; support groups; anyone and everyone, asking them to click on this link and write in support:

Remember social media too. Tweet, post, share, hashtag, whatever. Get the advocacy message out.

As you visit this website, you will have additional resources available such as advocacy and frequently asked questions.

Also, know that statistics are being tallied from Monday, March 20th to Friday, April 7th of the advocacy efforts from each state. Let’s make Minnesota even greater!

So start writing this Monday the 20th and go until you ‘hear the whistle’ on Friday the 7th!
